The University of Technology of Haiti (UNITECH) has just announced the creation of its first laboratory dedicated to cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. This initiative aims to develop research, training, and collaboration in fields related to digital advancements.

The launch of the laboratory was announced during an international symposium organized by the university on July 29 and 30, 2026, in partnership with the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) and the Croissance Group. Focused on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation, the event brought together government officials, researchers, academics, digital professionals, and innovation leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
This laboratory is the result of international cooperation bringing together experts from Tunisia, Canada—notably from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi—and the École nationale supérieure polytechnique de Yaoundé in Cameroon.

In his remarks, Rector Josselin Val emphasized that this initiative aligns with UNITECH’s mission to train professionals capable of navigating major technological shifts. He stressed the strategic importance of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence for the economic and institutional development of nations, as highlighted by Valentin Bromont, a cybersecurity specialist: “Attackers target financial systems, steal confidential data, and hack into companies. It is essential to have tools capable of monitoring and protecting the Haitian financial system.”

Thus, through this new facility—accessible to universities, public institutions, and the private sector—UNITECH aims to contribute to the development of applied research and the strengthening of expertise in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, taking into account the needs of Haiti and the Caribbean region.

The laboratory’s activities will focus in particular on data protection, the security of digital infrastructure, the applications of artificial intelligence, and supporting organizations in navigating technological transformations.
AUF-Caribbean is pleased to highlight UNITECH’s influence and dynamism. Its initiative illustrates the role of universities in supporting contemporary transformations by advancing research, education, and innovation on strategic issues such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. As such, it fully aligns with the AUF’s strategic priorities for the coming years: digital transformation, generative artificial intelligence, and impact-driven research.

A member of the AUF since 2023, the University of Technology of Haiti (UNITECH) is a private institution serving the public interest founded in 2007. Originally comprising three schools, it now has 8 schools, 13 bachelor’s degree programs, and 2 master’s degree programs, serving nearly 3,000 students taught by 178 faculty members. UNITECH also stands out for the career success of its graduates, who are employed in both the public and private sectors, as well as for the education provided by its School of Nursing, which is particularly renowned for its clinical internships in Haiti and abroad.
