France/Une Marianne d'Or for the City of Metz
On Wednesday, September 21, François Grosdidier, Mayor of Metz and President of the Metz Eurometropolis, received a Marianne d'Or award for the reopening of the neighborhood town halls and the implementation of the Metz'O river shuttles.
As part of the Mariannes d'Or de la République competition, the City of Metz has been selected as one of the winners of the 2022 competition for excellence in local democracy. Since 1984, this competition has honored local elected officials whose actions and initiatives enrich democracy and serve the general interest. Thus, a Marianne d'Or was awarded to François Grosdidier for "promoting the values of the Republic through proximity".
At the Marianne d'Or award ceremony in Paris on September 21, François Grosdidier, Mayor of Metz and President of theEurométropole de Metz, recalled his strong commitment to active democracy, which cannot be achieved in a conceptual manner but rather through direct contact with citizens. This commitment to be closer to the inhabitants of the territory is illustrated by concrete actions:
- Reopening of neighborhood town halls.
- Establishment of a communal advisory council.
- Reorganization of the neighborhood councils.
- Organization of periodic public meetings in all Messinian neighborhoods, allowing for a direct exchange with residents.
- Development of consultation meetings in the field with residents to improve their living environment.
- Creation of community policing units.
