Fifty-three members of the Landerneau-Hünfeld twinning committee will go across the Rhine, from 19 to 23 April, to celebrate the fifty-five years of twinning between the two cities.

It is a beautiful journey which prepares with the twinning committee Landerneau-Hünfeld. According to Loïc Bannier, the vice-president, it is an edition rich in emotions which will take place from April 19th to 23rd. We are going to celebrate fifty-five years of friendship with our German friends. In the train that will take the 53 Landerneaus to the city across the Rhine, there will be all generations, and many faithful. Everyone will be staying with a host family, and although the twinning committee has already proposed many trips to the sister city, there are some participants who have a lot of memories in their suitcases. Jo is the person who has made the most twinning trips to Hünfeld," says Loïc Bannier.

A tailor-made program of festivities

Let's go back in time: "The first time I went there was in 1974, with the Red Cross and the firemen. And I also initiated the exchanges with the police, the gendarmerie and the border guards that lasted twenty years," notes Jo Prigent. Stopped for years, the exchanges with the gendarmerie should start again. The Landerneau gendarmerie is willing to participate and will be present during the return trip. Indeed, the Germans come to Landerneau during the last week of October. And on the memory card of Loïc Bannier, who worked for several years in Germany and who made his first trip to Hünfeld at the age of four", there are also many indelible memories.

For months, the volunteers of the committee have concocted a program that promises to be enticing. Visits to the salt museum and the border museum. Breton animations, etc. The great novelty will be the presence of the ExHolders, a rock band from Landerne.

It is planned that the group will perform in several places. In the salt city, in a pub in Hünfeld in front of 400 people and during the official closing meal on Saturday, April 22. On that day, it will also be the renewal of the twinning charter", announces Loïc Bannier.

This trip, supported by the Franco-German citizen fund, which provides a nice financial aid", is not the only one to link Hünfeld and Landerneau. Throughout the year, exchanges are taking place. At the end of 2023, the Saint-Jo high school will have a school exchange. In June, the Lycée de l'Elorn will go to Germany and the return is scheduled for October. But also exchanges with sports clubs. In September, the Landerne jogging club went to Germany with 28 people.
