France/France Alzheimer Manche: "Strengthening our presence and partnerships".
Between sporting challenges, outings for carers and new partnerships: France Alzheimer Manche has an explosive program for some fifty people who attended the general meeting of the France Alzheimer Manche association, founded in 1999 by Renée Meiss, a Coutançaise who died recently, at Coutances town hall on Tuesday.
Évelyne Rabec, President since June 2024 and successor to Jean Saulnier, hosted the meeting. We have 437 members, up slightly on 2024.
The key word for the manager is strengthening. We want to strengthen our presence in remote rural areas such as Percy, Torigny and the Coutance coast, so that patients and carers can benefit from our actions. There are over 9,000 patients in the Manche region. We want to strengthen our partnerships and see medical research come to fruition. New drugs are on the way, but cost is a brake," observes Évelyne Rabec. A vacation at Saint-Jean-le-Thomas in September will give caregivers a chance to take a breather.
Two sporting challenges
Two sportsmen and women have or will be taking on challenges. Simon Nicolle, a runner from Sourdeval, in tribute to his grandparents affected by the disease, donated €1,564, the fruit of a fund-raising campaign set up during a marathon run around Lake Annecy on April 19.
Fabrice Duhé, an ex-professional firefighter from Granville, is preparing to swim from Donville-les-Bains to Chausey and back (34 km). I'll be setting off alone, at night, accompanied by friends in a canoe. The event, called Souffler pour ne pas s'épuiser, will last around twelve hours. The online kitty I've opened will go to the orphans of the Manche fire department and the France Alzheimer Manche association.
