The commune of Castets has strengthened its ties with Fustiñana, Navarre, through a symbolic and musical twinning, marked by the inauguration of signs and a joint concert.

On Saturday October 4th, the twinning between Castets and the Navarrese town of Fustiñana took another symbolic step forward. Surrounded by their elected representatives, Sergio Vitas Aguirre and Philippe Mouhel unveiled one of the six new signs installed at the entrances to the village.

The name Fustiñana can now be seen, accompanied by its flag, coats of arms and flamboyant letters. A powerful gesture that seals the bonds of friendship between the two communes.

Two villages, two cultures, two languages, but the same desire to share and enrich each other. To celebrate this union, the twin towns have chosen a universal language: music.

Mutual discovery

On Saturday evening, the Salle de l'Estanquet resounded to the notes of the Harmonie La Mi Del Sol from Castets and the Harmonie de Fustiñana. Together, they offered a concert of the highest quality, alternating popular, classical and festive music.

The musicians from both countries joined forces to perform a number of joint pieces, in an atmosphere marked by fraternity and emotion.

"Philippe Mouhel, mayor of Castets, who spoke in Spanish for the occasion, emphasized that "this twinning is based on a constant desire for mutual discovery and respect for our culture, heritage, environment and way of life. He emphasized the extent to which music represents a strong marker of the values shared by the two communes: openness, conviviality and transmission.

The next meeting between the two towns is already scheduled to take place in the Bardenas region of Navarre, during the traditional festival of the Virgin of the Peña, in the third week of November. Castets residents are invited to take part in this typical event, famous for its unmissable walnut-throwing.

Through these exchanges, Castets and Fustiñana continue to build a 269-kilometre cultural and human bridge.
