Four of them work tirelessly: Véronique Daufresne, president for decades; Martine Masson, in charge of finance; Sylvie Lireux, in the secretariat; and Françoise Guet, invaluable thanks to her perfect knowledge of the German language.

A moment of mourning was held on Friday evening at the statutory meeting for the twinning's first German vice-president, Uli Löhr, who passed away in April. He was essential for us. He worked at the Bosch factory in Mondeville when the twinning was set up, and he made a huge contribution to the twinning," said Véronique Daufresne.

Healthy finances

The Christmas market enables the committee to balance the budget. Martine Masson points out that the European Peace project, which dates back to 2014, has enabled a grant of €25,000 to be obtained. This grant was used to create the fresco on the outside wall of the Salle Brassens. Two copies will be made, one for the Germans and the second for the Belgians. Cost: around €2,000, the balance will be used to set up and support the European volunteer, who is due to stay in the area from June 2024 to June 2025. It's a big project that we'll have to work on and manage.

The committee takes advantage of the café associatif to organize themed meetings. New: German classes are held every 15 days on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the library. And there's still room.

Teens will be going to Germany from October 21 to 27. The Christmas market will take place on December 3, and St. Patrick's Day will be celebrated on March 7 in collaboration with the café associatif.
