The Abitibi MRC is in the process of updating its agricultural zone development plan (PDZA). Stakeholders from the agricultural, agrifood and territorial development sectors are expected to attend the 1st review forum this Tuesday, in Landrienne.

Adopted in 2016, the PDZA is a planning tool whose objective is to enhance the territory's agricultural zone through agriculture and thus ensure the sustainability of agricultural activities on the Abitibi MRC territory. It aims to promote the vitality and dynamic occupation of the territory.

After familiarizing themselves with the current situation, participants will be able to discuss issues and priorities for their territory during collaborative workshops.

The initial plan was more of a mapping exercise. Now, it's really a matter of going out into the field with the people who make up the agri-food community to target priorities that may not have been priorities in the first plan.priorities in the first plan, or things that need to be developed," explains Jules Grondin, mayor of Berry and chairman of the Abitibi MRC's PDZA committee.

At least four priorities

Topics such as young farmers, land use and marketing will be discussed during the day.

We're going to target at least four priorities that we could deliver over the life of the plan, which is a five-year plan. At the end of the day, we're giving ourselves a blank page, and then we're going to work with the interests of stakeholders and farmers," explains Mr. Grondin.

Participation in the forum is free, but people must still register with the CLD Abitibi.

The Abitibi MRC hopes to adopt its revised PDZA in the coming months.
