On the occasion of its general assembly on Friday, November 25, 2022, the twinning committee of Sarzeau (Morbihan) presented a twinning project with the town of Pasaia, located in the Spanish Basque country, near San Sebastián.

After a long period of slow activity, the twinning committee of Sarzeau(Morbihan) is teeming with projects. Our objective is to fulfill our role of facilitator of exchanges with Europe and with Dahlem, our twin city in Germany, says Jacques Thébault, president of the committee.

With this in mind, the team has been working to identify new partnerships. The Vieilles voiles de Rhuys (VVR), which collaborated with Albaola, the wooden shipyard of the small town, helped to think about Pasaia, in Spain. After having presented the project to the town hall of Sarzeau, the twinning committee benefited from the help of Kriestien Hendrickx, Spanish teacher at the Sainte-Marie college. She is the one who presented the idea to the mayor of Pasaia during her vacations there. The mayor of Pasaia wants this partnership to make sense and to be based on common ground around which to build fruitful exchanges for both communes," says the teacher.

"Events for all generations

With nearly 80 members and a healthy treasury, the twinning committee can now count on Evelyn Lebiche, a young German-French woman who has lived in Sarzeau for four years.Evelyn Lebiche, a young German-French woman who has lived in Sarzeau for four years with her family and has been a member for two years, is now in charge of the association's communication. Projects for young working people are also part of the committee's wishes. We need to set up multigenerational events," adds Pierre Bocqueho, secretary of the committee.

To revitalize the association and rejuvenate its audience, the committee's team plans to approach other associations such as sports clubs, cultural associations and parent-teacher groups. For 2023, the twinning committee plans to develop the partnership with the schools and thinks about inviting the German residents of the peninsula around a friendly meeting. Within the framework of the twinning file with Pasaia, the committee plans to receive the Spanish team in partnership with the VVR. Without forgetting Dahlem, where a trip is still to be planned in the coming months.

The general assembly ended with the election of Robert Guillou, Michel Pélicant, Claude Le gal and Jacques Thébault, all four outgoing members of the board. The candidacies of Danièle Abramovici and Evelyn Lebiche were also validated.
