The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene initiated this Monday, August 8, 2022, a training for its officials on gender sensitive planning. An initiative that is in line with the effective consideration of gender in the health sector, after the validation of the action plan 2022-2026 developed for this purpose, with the support of its partners.

The integral development of each Burkinabe (man and woman) necessarily depends on the effective enjoyment of their fundamental human rights. It is with this in mind that Burkina Faso has developed its National Gender Strategy (NGS) for the period 2020-2024.

The aim is to reduce social inequalities and promote gender, while relying on its National Health Development Action Plan 2021-2030. To this end, the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene has initiated training for its officials on gender-sensitive planning.

The objective of this workshop is to equip participants to appropriate the gender concept, to understand the issues and implications of taking gender into account in health interventions, and to develop gender sensitive plans and budgets. This will allow for an effective response to the health needs of girls, women and children who have been severely affected by the security crisis in Burkina Faso. But also of all vulnerable groups affected by this scourge.

Clearly, the action plan in question aims to integrate gender into policies, strategies, plans and programs at all levels of the health system. It will facilitate the taking into account of gender in programming, monitoring and reporting of actions and the evolution of indicators, as well as the development and transmission of reports to the Ministry of Gender and Family.

The activity is funded by the European Union through the Health Sector Policy Support Project (PAPS2). This support to the Burkinabe government aims to improve the health of the population, particularly that of women and children.
