The 18th days of the Ivorian Society of Pediatrics (SIP) opened on Thursday, June 23, 2022 in Yamoussoukro are devoted to the theme of "child survival and community health", in order to find ways to strengthen the capacity and responsibility of the community in the management of child health.

"The main causes of death, such as neonatal pathology, malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, measles, HIV and malnutrition, can be prevented by essential family practices (EFPs).These are simple gestures that when promoted and adopted by families and communities ensure the survival of children," stressed the chair of the meeting, Professor Agbo Houenou Yveline.

It is therefore important to give enough knowledge and confidence to the community, those who ensure the first contact in the care of children, so as not to "push health professionals to try to do the same", explained a participant at the Yamoussoukro meeting.

Experts agree that community-based case management improves health outcomes.

Several subtopics such as national and regional child survival policy, community-based pediatric pathology, and child health prevention and promotion were discussed.Several subtopics such as national and regional policy for child survival, pediatric pathology in the community, and prevention and promotion of newborn, child and adolescent health in the community will be the subject of lectures and presentations at this meeting.

Pediatrics is a discipline of medicine that focuses on the health and illness of children, aged 0 to 18 years. It covers all the welfare and protection of children and includes both curative, preventive and promotional aspects.

The SIP brings together pediatricians employed and liberal and also all actors in the care of the child, we indicate.
