The municipality of Anderlecht presented a draft budget with a significant deficit of 8.3 million euros on Thursday. The aldermen's college announced a budget plan to return to balance over the next two years.

According to Finance alderman Elke Roex (LB - Vooruit), the causes of the difficulty in making ends meet are to be found in the crisis linked to the pandemic, as well as in the increase of more than 6% in personnel costs due to three consecutive indexations and the salary impact of the agreement reached in committee C.The causes of the difficulty in making ends meet, according to Finance alderman Elke Roex (LB - Vooruit), are to be found in the crisis linked to the pandemic, as well as in the increase of more than 6% in personnel costs due to three consecutive indexations and the salary impact of the agreement reached in committee C.

As far as energy costs are concerned, the municipality will continue to benefit from the effects of a fixed contract for two years, but it will also be affected by the impact of inflation in this area.

Revenues are not following the same upward curve, especially the regional grant, whose indexation has been capped at 2% until the end of the current year.

For 2022, the municipality intends to improve the yield and collection of municipal taxes by conducting a comparative study with other Brussels municipalities. The tax on large commercial spaces and on offices will be brought into line with the rates applied in other Brussels municipalities. A tax on parking spaces for companies and businesses will be introduced, exempting spaces available to local residents.

A tax on excess housing will also be introduced to combat the abusive subdivision of rented properties. According to Elke Roex, 219 such properties have already been identified.

In addition, the compressible operating costs will be reduced by 7%. No more staff will be hired this year. The replacement of departing staff will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the urgency of the need.
